VETERANS, residents and councillors stood side by side today to demonstrate Tendring’s ongoing support for the nation’s Armed Forces.

They were there to witness a specially-commissioned Armed Forces flag being hoisted from the flagpole in Station Road, outside Clacton Town Hall.

It will now be flown throughout the week by Tendring Council in appreciation of the contribution made by those who have served in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces.

Five Standards went on display at the ceremony which was led by Karen Yallop, vice chairman of the council, and Reverend John Allison.

Ms Yallop said it was a "great privilege and honour" to be able to raise the flag.

A minute’s silence was also held for the victims of recent terror attacks in London and Manchester.

The Armed Forces flag will stay in place until after Armed Forces Day on Saturday.

A second British Armed Forces flag is also at the council's Weeley offices.
