YOUNGSTERS in Walton have taken part in a new project to build a racing banger car.

Police Community Support Officer Michele Diss, from Walton police station, spoke to young people about their interest in getting involved in the Build a Banger scheme.

PCSO Diss, along with Helen Appleton at Tendring Technology College, have organised for the youngsters and their parents to get to 12 young men signed up to a scheme to participate in the scheme.

Graham Fuller, the manager and owner of Walton-based Tendring Recycling, has donated his time and facilities to support the youngsters during the project.

PCSO Diss said they will be working with Mr Fuller to renovate an old vehicle.

Hopefully they will then get a chance to see it being raced.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “Other staff at the venue will work along-side the youngsters to steer them and teach them the required skills to break down a scrapped car and rebuild it to the specifications required for banger racing.

“The project will move forward now with nights spent working on the car until it is ready to race at a speedway event. “Hopefully the young people will develop some skills and qualifications that may take them forward with future employment.”
