A SINGALONG is being staged to celebrate war time singer Dame Vera Lynn becoming 100 years young.

Two care homes - Silversprings in Thorrington and Haven Lodge in Clacton - are inviting people to join them on Monday to strike a chord to mark the landmark birthday of the forces’ sweetheart.

From 2pm to 4pm guests and residents will be sharing their memories of Dame Vera Lynn in anticipation of the main event - a rendition of the popular war-time song, We’ll Meet Again.

Susan Oates, who is home manager at Silversprings said: “We’re are all looking forward to taking a walk down memory lane and having a good sing-along to celebrate Vera Lynn’s milestone birthday.”

She added: “Singing can be a powerful reminiscence activity.

“Dame Vera Lynn has written a number of iconic songs which many residents are likely to have grown up listening to.”
