A SUCCESSFUL court order means an illegally-parked caravan owner will be forcibly moved next week.

Tendring Council had decided to give the owner, who is blocking a public path in Walton, a further ten days before taking enforcement action.

After issuing the man with a notice to leave Sunny Point last month - and it being ignored - he will now be moved on March 14.

An address in Jaywick has been identified through an agent, who has offered to carry out work on the property for it to be suitable to live in, should he take it up.

Tendring councillor Paul Honeywood, responsible for housing, said the council is continuing to offer the man help and advice.

He said: “The council's housing options team have come up with a number of possible ways forward with accommodation within the private sector.

“We have also offered a rent deposit guarantee to enable him to get somewhere to live.”

There was initially some confusion as to whether the caravan was on public or private land, which was resolved.

The Walton resident then moved the caravan a few yards from its original position but it ended up in a worse location.

It is understood some residents had provided the man with food and other assistance.

Councillor Nick Turner, responsible for commercialisation, seafronts and parking, said it had now reached the point where the council has to take action.

“There have been a number of issues to consider and we have encouraged this man to move on – and given him help to come up with a solution,” he added.

“It is now time to set a date, which will be next Tuesday, and it is our intention to remove the caravan on that day.”
