CLACTON MP Douglas Carswell is calling for government action to help GP surgeries hang on to their doctors in areas with elderly populations.
Pressure on surgeries in Tendring has increased, with some struggling to replace doctors.
Staffing problems have led to some refusing to take on new patients.
Mr Carswell tabled a written question to junior health minister David Mowat asking the government had drawn up a strategy to help deal with the problems.
The minister said there was no specific policy for areas with elderly populations said the Department of Health was investing £40million over four years to support surgeries.
Mr Carswell says proposals which could see Clacton Hospital's minor injuries unit close could put even greater pressure on already overstretched GPs.
“For many reasons, older folk struggle to make appointments that are far from their home," he said.
"GP surgeries need to be properly staffed to handle the needs of elderly patients.
“The closure of Clacton’s minor injuries unit might mean even more pressure on primary care providers."
