FATHER Christmas had a slight delay sailing into the Backwaters on Walton and Frinton’s lifeboat.

A crowd of several hundred people gathered at Walton and Frinton Yacht Club where Father Christmas arrived at the quayside in Walton.

But not even Mr Christmas with all his magic could control the tide, which was much lower than predicted due to the current high pressure.

As the families patiently waited, they were serenaded by the Kirby Community Choir led by Gill Kendall and entertained by MC Chris Opperman, the event’s host.

More than 70 excited children received a gift from Father Christmas and his elf and many had their faces painted by Evie Perryman.

Club spokesman Beverley Jenkins said: “It wasn’t too long before the crew were able to make their way up the river and deliver their special visitor to the clubhouse.

“Other visitors explored the indoor festive market and took pleasure in the wonderful backwater views from the clubhouse.

“It was a thoroughly successful event and the yacht club are indebted to Walton RNLI for their support.”
