A proposed fish and chip take-away in Holland has received a battering from neighbours.

Henry Poyraz of Great Yarmouth hopes to convert a former canoe shop at 204 Frinton Road into Henry’s Fish Bar.

However, residents at the nearby Hove Court block of flats have sent a petition to Tendring Council, who will determine the application.

The residents say the planned fish and chip shop will be “totally inappropriate” to the area.

They claim it would have too little parking, which would cause a danger to pedestrians, including elderly people living nearby who often use invalid buggies. They also fear noise and smells from the development, which hopes to stay open until 11pm.

“We are all concerned to have found out from local estate agents that our properties could be devalued by approximately £10,000 plus with a property of this nature being a fish and chip shop or any other hot fast food outlet in such close proximity to Hove Court,” their petition also said.

Haven Ward councillor Joy Broderick called the fish shop proposal “absolutely ridiculous.”

The Holland Residents Association councillor said residents in Hove Court have balconies overlooking the site and “the stench would be unbelievable.”

Mrs Broderick also raised concerns of parking on a dangerous road.

“The residents are horrified at the thought of the take away. There is no need as we have two others in the area,” she added.

However, the application said Mr Poyraz believes his fish shop would “benefit the area, residents and travellers to the nearby seaside.”

Extraction flues would deal with smells and extra lighting would reduce parking hazards. He was flexible on opening hours.

“Our client is eager to integrate in the Tendring District and would very much like to be successful in their application,” it added.
