WITH tens of thousands of sun-seekers heading for the Tendring coast over the next few days people need to be prepared for the hot weather.

Temperatures are above average for the time of year and they are likely to reach the mid 20s or even higher at times.

That can cause issues out in the sun and on the beach – but also travelling to the area in cars.

Nigel Brown, Tendring Council’s communications manager, said that this is always a busy period for the district, whatever the weather.

“We have the Clacton Airshow on Thursday and Friday running into a bank holiday which is the last before children go back to school,” he said.

“Inevitably we have a huge influx of visitors and we love them to be greeted with bright sunshine but it can bring problems if people are not fully prepared.

“Currently the forecast is looking good, with plenty of very warm weather in store for the Sunshine Coast all week.”

John Hammond, Met Office Advisor for Essex, said: “Temperature highs in the Clacton area are likely to reach the low to mid 20s Celsius throughout this week, along with some hot sunshine at times.

“However, the heat does bring the small risk of a thunderstorm before the week is out – but for much of the time, the emphasis is on fine summer seaside weather.”

With warm conditions expected and to help everyone to enjoy the airshow and bank holiday the advice is:

  • Protect yourself, use plenty of sun cream
  • Top it off with a hat, hats can provide shade and protect you from the sun
  • Be comfortable, wear light, loose clothing
  • Keep hydrated, drink plenty of water throughout the day.
  • For the journey, if travelling to the coast remember to have drinking water for your journey.

If you are travelling by car, some traffic congestion should be expected, so please remember to have plenty of water on hand to keep hydrated – so you arrive ready to enjoy yourself.
