A BUILDING was left with serious structural damage after a “boy racer” lost control of his car and smashed into the property before fleeing the scene.

The silver Renault Clio slid out as it screeched around the corner into Wild Close, in Clacton.

It slammed into the side of the Britton Construction headquarters, causing major damage to the wall, which will cost £25,000 to repair.

The culprit and his pals pushed the Clio away from the building and up the road, before getting it started again and driving off.

Manager David Andrews said: “One of the chaps came into work and didn’t notice anything from the outside.

“When he got inside, he saw the fridge was a few feet across the room and there were blocks on the floor.

“He went to look at the wall and saw the impact had shoved part of it in by about 12 inches.”

Mr Andrews checked through the CCTV footage and found the incident.

“There were two young guys hanging around, and then a driver came down the road and came around the corner at speed,” he said. “He hit the brake and the car twitched and slid straight into the wall.”

CCTV cameras could not pick up a number plate for the car.

The driver’s friends were driving a small black car and a silver Ford Fiesta.

Mr Andrews said: “We have had problems with youths and boy racers on the business park for some time.

“There have been litter issues and they do donuts and destroy their tyres, but there haven’t been any serious problems until this. The driver is very lucky. If he had hit it any harder the wall would have come down on top of him.”

Police have launched an investigation.
