A MAN has been charged with threatening a person with a knife and assaulting a police officer in an incident at a Jaywick newsagents.
Police were called to Dot’s of Jaywick, in Broadway, after staff at the newsagents reported being threatened with a knife.
Officers were alerted to the incident at about 7.15pm on Saturday.
Edward Coates, 41, of Beach Way, Jaywick, was arrested in connection with the incident.
He was later charged with threatening a person with a blade in a public place and assaulting a constable while they were carrying out their duty.
He was also charged with assault by beating in relation to a separate incident on the same day.
Coates appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Monday and has been remanded in custody to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on July 25.
