HUNDREDS of Scouts paraded through Clacton for an event to mark St George’s Day.

The huge group of standard-bearing Scouts from across Tendring took part in the event, including Beavers, Cub Scouts, Scouts and Explorer Scouts.

They assembled in Victoria Road before marching along Church Road to St Paul’s Church for a special service.

District commissioner for Tendring Scouts, Ray Smith, said: “It went very well and we had an excellent attendance, while the weather was kind to us.

“We reckon about 400 people took part because that is the capacity of the church, and we had to squeeze everybody up to get them in.

“It is a fantastic sight to see everyone parading through the street and we enjoy being able to do something to mark the occasion.”

Presentations were also held at the church for Scout leaders receiving long service awards.

Rob Medler picked up an award for 50 years of services to Scouting, first becoming an assistant leader in Clacton in 1965.

Peter Perry picked up the Bar to the Award of Merit for his contributions, as well as going above and beyond as a volunteer to boost construction of the nearly-complete new District Scout Centre.

Brian Mayo was also given the Silver Wolf award for 40 years of exceptional service.
