A WOMAN in her 80s has been left distraught after a callous crook took cash from her purse after pushing past her in an attempted con.

The would-be conman demanded the elderly lady, who lives in Highview Avenue, Clacton, paid for a parcel he claimed to be delivering to her neighbour.

But when the victim challenged the man – who did not have a parcel - he pushed past her into her home and took £30 from her purse before making off.

Investigating officer, Det Con Emily Chapman, said: "The suspect was clearly not a genuine delivery man.

“His sole intention was to try and bluff his way into this poor lady’s home so he could steal her money.

“She has been left extremely distraught by what happened and I urgently want to find this man and arrest him.

“If anyone saw this man in the area knocking on other doors or studying properties then I would like them to call me.

“I would also remind householders to remain vigilant and never let any cold-callers into their homes and to always check the identity cards of anyone claiming to be any type of official.”

The suspect is described as being white, around 5ft 7ins tall and was wearing a light coloured jacket and a hat.

The incident happened at about 12noon on Friday.

Witnesses should call Det Con Chapman at Clacton CID on 101.
