DAVID Cameron has backed a regeneration scheme to build starter homes in Jaywick.

The Prime Minister heard about plans for the deprived Brooklands area when he visited Holland Haven last year.

Tendring Council leader Neil Stock has received a letter from the PM to say he is pleased with the plans from the Coastal Community Team.

The team was funded via a £200,000 grant from the Department of Communities and Local Government.

Mr Cameron said more money could be in the pipeline for the initiative as part of a £1.2billion cash pot being made available during this Parliament. Mr Cameron wrote: “I welcome the considerable progress Jaywick is making in realising its ambitions.

The design challenge is an interesting and creative proposal and I understand it was discussed and supported at the Jaywick Coastal Team meeting in December.

“I know the team’s plans for Jaywick include proposals to regenerate this coastal community that are supported by key partners, including community leaders. We look forward to working with you on developing and implementing the economic plan for Jaywick and securing starter homes early in the plan period.”

Mr Stock said the council and its partners were delighted to get an endorsement from the Prime Minister.
