THE fate of a scheme to build six new homes on land next to a village car park in Elmstead Market will be decided by a Government inspector.

Tendring Council’s planning committee deferred a decision on the plans for a site in Clacton Road at a meeting in July.

The decision was delayed so officers could carry out further negotiations with developers, Square Sail.

However, councillors were told at a meeting of the committee on Tuesday that the applicant had launched an appeal with the Planning Inspectorate, citing the previous deferral as a “non-determination” of the plans.

Tendring Council’s committee recommended the scheme for refusal on Tuesday, although the final decision will be made by a planning inspector.

Councillors said the development had a cramped appearance, a dangerous access via the A133, as well as drainage issues. Elmstead Market Parish Council also opposed the application.
