AN application has been launched for a huge development including hundreds of homes in Kirby Cross.

The proposal has been lodged by developers to build up to 240 houses on land between Halstead Road and Buckfast Avenue.

It would also include a community ‘hub’ with parking spaces and a 40- bed care home or a healthcare facility.

Several green spaces and room for a play area have also been added into the design.

Developers Welbeck Strategic Land presented an early draft of their plans to residents at a special meeting about two months ago. Residents have hit out at the blueprint, saying it would create congestion and put too much pressure on services.

An official application has now been lodged for outline planning permission, with 30 fewer homes than originally suggested.

But residents say it is still too much and have vowed to battle against the development.
