A BID is set to be launched by Frinton and Walton Town Council to take over a popular community skatepark.

Walton’s skatepark, off Hall Lane, is owned by Tendring Council.

The town council pays an annual rent of about £3,000 to the district authority for the skatepark. But town councillors have now agreed to ask for the facility to be transferred to them.

Deputy Mayor Robert Bucke said: “We would like the skatepark to be transferred to the town council so we don’t have to pay that rent fee. It is one way the district council could help us with the resources being given down to this council diminishing.

“Alternatively, we could look at applying for it to become an asset of community value.”

Councillor Terry Allen said: “The town council did the work to provide that facility.

“We have been paying thousands of pounds a year in rent for a decade now.

Tendring has more than made its money back.”

Town councillors voted on the idea and will now approach the district council.
