A BAKERY boss has called for improvements to perilous pavements after seeing a string of elderly residents trip and fall outside her Frinton store.
Tracy Miller, who owns Cabin Bakery on the corner of Connaught Avenue and Pole Barn Lane, has slammed the state of pavements in the area.
She has seen several elderly residents trip and suffer severe injuries.
Tracy said: “It seems that every week we have someone falling over right outside.
“We have had three in the last three weeks, and two months ago a lady fractured her hip and had to have replacement surgery.
“One metal grill is missing and your foot can drop right down into it.
“The block paving is also raised and crooked in places where the tree roots are forcing it to lift.
“There are a lot of elderly people in this area and it is so easy for them to trip over anything like that. It is a real danger.”
One elderly walker tripped last week, injuring her knee and arm.
Tracy rushed to help and took the woman to be checked over by doctors.
She added: “All of the business owners in this little area have been on to the council about the state of the pavements for quite a while now.
“They need to be fixing this sort of thing straight away.
“It’s dangerous and we have seen that over and over again here.”
An Essex County Council spokesman said work to fix pavements and kerbs in Pole Barn Lane started on July 3 and was due to be completed on July 31.
