AN aerobatics team is set to make its Clacton Airshow debut in front of huge crowds.

Team Raven will thrill fans with its formation flying on day one of next month’s spectacular.

It was formed last year after the Osprey and Viper aerobatic teams disbanded.

The pilots fly do-it-yourself RV4s and RV8s – singleengine planes sold in kit form by Van’s Aircraft.

They are already looking ahead to 2016, with keen interest from Holland, Belgium, Spain and Ireland, as well at home.

The free-wheeling Autogyro helicopter also makes a welcome return to the Sunshine Coast, where it will fly over the seafront at less than 100 feet above the ground and just 50 metres from the crowd in the two-day extravaganza.

It never fails to thrill with its up close and personal performance.

The unique aircraft is like a flying windmill. With no engine, it relies on air flowing through its rotor disks to propel it.

Tendring Council leisure boss Mick Skeels said: “Previously, we have announced the Vulcan and the Typhoon jet, and this time it is something completely different.

“However, it all makes for an exciting show and I am already looking forward to it.”

The airshow takes place on August 27 and 28.

Other flights already confirmed include the RAF Tigers parachute team, Chinook helicopter and the Sally B, the UK’s last remaining airworthy B-17 Flying Fortress, with more aircraft still to be announced.

Last year, the show attracted a record-breaking 200,000 people.
