CONTROVERSIAL plans to increase the number of caravans on a holiday park have been given the green light – despite protests from nearby residents.
More than 60 people signed a petition opposing the expansion of Sacketts Grove Caravan Park, off Jaywick Lane in Clacton.
Dan Casey, of the Jaywick Forum, urged Tendring Council to reject the proposals for more than 50 extra static caravans. He said one 89- year-old resident had enjoyed looking out over countryside for years, but would now have views of static caravans.
Mr Casey told the planning committee the extra caravans would put more strain on already struggling services.
The planning committee voiced concerns over the site axing pitches for touring caravans and parking issues. Councillor Roy Raby said traffic would be “very hectic”.
But holiday park bosses said the proposals would boost its business and help the local economy.
The planning committee called for a “thick wedge”
between the site and neighbouring homes.
The proposals were approved by eight votes to two with one abstention.
