A £5MILLION scheme to repair Jaywick’s crumbling roads is set to start this month.

Essex County Council’s scheme to improve drainage and road surfaces in the village was announced in its budget earlier this year.

The two-year project will see roads improved in the Brooklands, Grasslands and Jaywick village areas.

County council leader David Finch said: “We pledged to invest in Jaywick and we are now delivering on that promise with a £5million investment to improve roads and drainage over two years.

“At a very well attended public engagement session earlier this year we asked what people wanted and they said highways improvements.

“This work will vastly enhance the roads and appearance of the area and make Jaywick less susceptible to flooding.”

Tendring Council leader Neil Stock welcomed the move as a huge boost for Jaywick.

He said: “It is a significant amount of money and will make a real difference to people’s lives by improving the state of roads and drainage.

“However, it is just the start of things to come as we move forward with the regeneration of Jaywick and continue to consult with residents on the way forward.”

The improvements will be delivered in three phases and will include new road surfacing outside homes in a number of areas.

The project will also see improvement works to the main drainage ditch to reduce the risk of flooding.

Tendring Council also plans to build council homes on land off Lotus Way, in Brooklands, as part of the regeneration package.
