RESIDENTS have hit out at the decision that has allowed a bakery to put chairs and tables out on Frinton’s Connaught Avenue.
Bakery chain Greggs was given permission by Tendring Council to put out the furniture, surrounded by a barrier, earlier this month.
Town councillors and residents are angry the tables and chairs will stick out by two metres from the shopfront into the town’s iconic shopping avenue.
Frinton and Walton Town Council and Frinton Residents’ Association both fought to keep the street free from tables and Aboards.
At the annual meeting of Frinton Residents’ Association on Saturday, residents questioned why it had been allowed when there had been calls for nothing to obstruct the pavement by more than 0.8m.
Patricia Marino said: “What a ridiculous situation when officers with nothing to do with Frinton just get the power to pass that.
“Now, are we just stuck with it?”
