JAYWICK has been named as one of 12 coastal communities to take part in a pioneering project to boost deprived economies.

The Government is helping to create dedicated coastal teams for the pilot project, aimed at kick-starting seaside economies and creating jobs.

Coastal Communities Minister Penny Mordaunt said the plans would drive a longterm vision to regenerate Jaywick, which is the most deprived area in the country.

The team will be made up of residents, councils and small businesses, and will be able to bid for a share of the new £3million coastal revival fund.

Ms Mordaunt said: “Supporting seaside towns to unlock their enormous potential, boost local economies and contribute to the wider area is an important part of the Government’s long-term economic plan.

“These coastal teams will be crucial in driving forward ideas, harnessing local expertise and tapping into new business opportunities which will benefit the entire community.”

Mrs Mordaunt said the new team, which will be given £10,000 to kick-start its work, will develop new and old partnerships to boost the economy and improve infrastructure.

A Tendring Council spokesman said it would be working with the Jaywick Forum, Essex County Council, Department forWork and Pensions, private landlords, registered providers, police, health and private investors as part of the team.

The project will also be supported by the Coastal Communities Alliance.
