GREEN-FINGERED friends are calling for volunteers to help them keep Clacton’s stunning seafront gardens blooming.
The Friends of Clacton Seafront group, which helps on the stretch of Clacton Seafront from the Memorial Gardens to the West Greensward, was formed last year following an appeal by Tendring Council.
They are now calling for more people to come forward.
Jan Watson, who has been a volunteer with the group since it formed, said: “I’m new to the area and fell in love with the seafront gardens on first sight. It’s great to be able to roll my sleeves up and contribute to the community in such a positive way that benefits so many, and I’d recommend it to all those who love gardening and want to do their bit.”
The council’s gardeners will continue to do the majority of the work, but the friends group provides support and the community involvement needed for the site to retain its Green Flag.
The seafront gardens, which are also tended by Alton Park Primary School, are enjoyed by thousands of visitors every summer.
Anyone interested in joining the group can call Trevor Mills on 01255 686643.
