MUMS have called for Clacton Hospital’s maternity unit to go back to opening around the clock.

NHS bosses dropped proposals to close Clacton and Harwich’s maternity units following the Gazette’s Save Our Baby Service campaign last year.

It then launched a consultation exercise into the service’s future.

But the boards of both North-East Essex Clinical Commissioning Group and Colchester Hospital, which runs the service, are set to recommend that Clacton and Harwich remain as “on demand” midwife-led units, with ante-natal and postnatal care continuing.

Mums are upset that the units will not return to opening full-time, although they will remain open during the day.
