A ONCE-failing school has been given a glowing report by education watchdogs after making huge improvements.

Frinton Primary School was told it must improve by Ofsted two years ago.

Inspectors visited again at the end of February to check its progress and have praised the school’s major improvement.

It was rated good – Ofsted’s second highest grade.

The report said school bosses had “raised expectations and taken decisive action to tackle weaknesses in teaching”, adding: “As a result, teaching is now good and leads to good achievement across the school.”

The inspectors also praised the behaviour of pupils and the quality of teaching, and described the range of subjects as “vibrant and stimulating”.

Headteacher Mandy Barlow took over at the beginning of January and said her first goal had been to achieve a “good” Ofsted rating.

She said: “We’re really pleased with the result. This is a really positive step and one we have worked hard towards.

“I would love to claim all the credit, having only been here a few weeks, but the contribution of my predecessor, Mrs Dear, must be recognised.

“The ball was already rolling in the right direction and we have just kept up that improvement.

“But we haven’t been doing it to impress Ofsted. Everything we do is for the good of the children and their education, and the grades follow naturally.”
