A SMASH-HIT sitcom is once again moving from the screen to the stage.

Last year, the Great Bentley Players were the first amateur dramatic group in Essex to perform Ian Gower and Paul Carpenter’s play The Vicar of Dibley, adapted from the original television series, starring Dawn French.

The show proved a spectacular success and the group was approached by the writers to take on the sequel – Christmas the Second Coming.

Last year’s cast have reprised their roles, including Amanda Powell as sassy reverend Geraldine Grainger and Sarah White as lovable half-wit Alice Tinker.

The duo’s performances earned them the best actress and best supporting actress crowns at the Essex Theatre Guild Awards.

Chairman Lynda McWilliams was thrilled to be asked to put on the sequel.

She said: “I was delighted when I contacted scriptwriter Ian Gower to thank him for his script and mention our success.

“Shortly after, I then received an e-mail from him asking if we would like to perform the sequel – so, naturally, I said yes please! We have enjoyed our rehearsals and there has been an enormous amount of fun and laughter, so we do hope everyone enjoys this production as much as we have during the many weeks of preparation.”

The Vicar of Dibley – Christmas the Second Coming is at Great Bentley village hall, in Plough Road, from January 28 to 31. Tickets cost £7 from Deli Licious, in Plough Road, or on 07503 153960.
