POST Office bosses have launched plans to move a Jaywick branch.

They are hoping to move the post office in Tudor Parade into a shop just 200 metres down the road.

It could be moved into the nearby McColls store and run from the normal till at the shop counter, rather than a separate screened counter.

Bosses said the proposed move was part of a major modernisation project for services across the country.

It would providea boost to the Jaywick centre’s opening hours, with the Post Office service available for an extra 65 hours a week.

Within McColls, it would operate Monday to Saturday from 6am to 10pm, and from 7am to 10pm on Sunday.

Will Russell, regional manager said: “We understand how important having a post office is to residents in the area and we are confident this new, modern service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.

“This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

A six-week public consultation into the proposed moves is now under way, closing on February 25.
