GENEROUS residents who came to the aid of gas blast victims in Clacton have been thanked for their support.

Ten people were left injured when two houses in Cloes Lane were destroyed during the explosion on February 5.

A total of 24 houses were affected by the blast.

Kerry Jones-Montague, of Coopers Lane, set up a Facebook group that led to the creation of a support group at Coppins Hall community centre, in Maldon Way.

The group has now been disbanded after the last of the £8,000 raised was handed over to families.

“In total, we gave £7,700 out to those affected and furbished five homes,” said Mrs Jones-Montague.

“About 22 homes have had a share of the pot. It wasn’t just four homes affected, there were a lot of people.

“Donations all came from the public who gave money, as well as items of furniture. Schools held non-uniform days to raise money and we have had quizzes and a family fun day back in June at Highfields.

“So many people gave support that it would be impossible to thank them all.

“But we are so grateful for their generosity. Not just for donations and other items, but for their time and support. The community really pulled together.”

A Health and Safety Executive spokeswoman said the investigation into the blast had now been completed and conclusions would be released once they have been discussed.
