GREEN-fingered volunteers did not let the weather dampen their spirits as they got stuck into Clacton’s seafront gardens.
Residents Sally Harriss, Maggie Nash and Jan Watson have signed up to form a new community team to dig in and boost the spectacular seafront attractions.
Last month, Tendring Council appealed for volunteers to step up and help council staff maintain the gardens.
Seven people signed up and Sally, Maggie and Jan kicked off the community project by weeding the flower beds early on Thursday morning – despite the cold and wet weather.
The keen gardeners said they wanted to help out and described the seafront gardens as a “show piece” for Clacton.
Tendring Council environment boss Nick Turner said he was delighted.
“I think it is fantastic that seven residents have come forward to get involved on an ad hoc basis and play a part in the maintenance of our gardens,” he said.
“We also get backing from Alton Park School and Community Payback, which is much appreciated.”
