A CLACTON man has appeared in court charged with murder.

Junaid Hamidi, 28, of Flowers Way, Jaywick, is charged with murdering Sheikh Zubair Hamidi in Freeman Street, Grimsby, earlier this week.

The accused appeared at Grimsby and Cleethorpes Magistrates' Court this morning.

Alleged victim Sheikh Zubair Hamidi, aged 48, was also from Clacton.

Mr Hamidi, who was of Bangladeshi origin, was the owner of the premises in Freeman Street where his body was found on Tuesday.

He is understood to have been renovating the property.

Humberside Police launched a murder investigation after a post mortem examination, carried out on Tuesday evening, revealed he died as a result of multiple head injuries.

A police guard was posted at the address where the alleged incident took place and searches of a flat and the rear of the property were carried out.

Junaid Hamidi was arrested on Tuesday and held in police custody.

He was later charged with murdering Sheikh Zubair Hamidi between October 19 and 22, and is due to appear before Hull Crown Court on Monday.

The victim was formally named by police yesterday.

Specially trained officers have been supporting his family.
