TOWN Hall bosses have lambasted Mr Carswell for costing taxpayers an estimated £100,000 by quitting – despite the next General Election being just eight months away.
Council workers have been forced to cancel holidays and work weekends to deal with the spiralling workloads after defecting MP Douglas Carswell triggered a by-election.
