A CHARITY has launched a new service to help bereaved and lonely residents in Tendring.
Clacton-based Community Voluntary Services Tendring (CVST) has started a district-wide group following a £3,500 grant from Tendring Council.
CVST chairman Brenda Ellis said the aim was to make people feel less isolated.
Volunteers have been trained and activities organised including talks, demonstrations and trips out.
“Our own survey last year proved there is a need and we are delighted with the progress we have made in setting up the group,” said Mrs Ellis.
“The idea is that the meetings will help those attending feel more relaxed and valued through the various therapies and activities.
“They will also have the chance to volunteer and get involved with community activities.”
The charity was picked to receive the council cash, which has come from recycling metals from crematoria throughout the country.
Council environment boss Nick Turner said: “Loneliness and isolation is a problem for many people and this group will make a huge difference to so many of our vulnerable residents.”
