A PUB in Clacton has been voted as Tendring’s top real ale pub for the second year running.

The Old Lifeboat House pub, in Marine Parade East, has been named as the Tendring Campaign for Real Ale’s favourite place for a tipple of real ale.

The pub was the first ever in Clacton to pick up the accolade when it won it in 2012.
Landlord Ron Stephenson said: “We were overwhelmed to win it last year, but to get it twice is amazing.

“We really have moved over to a lot of real ales and we never put on the same thing twice.

“It means people come here to try different beers from around the country.

“There are a lot of beer festivals taking place nowadays and people know about their beers – they are real connoisseurs.

“We think we have gone down well with them because we are giving them something a little bit different.”

CAMRA chairman Jeff Luesley said the branch's 500 members voted for their favourite boozers.

“I am quite pleased the Old Lifeboat House has won again," he said.

“It set itself a high standard and in the past year has even managed to improve with an increased range of interesting real ales on all the time.

"They are always in good condition and there is always a warm welcome.

“This year was a very difficult choice as all five pubs on the shortlist serve excellent beers and are good community locals.”

The other finalists included the Victory in Walton, Weeley's White Hart, the Railway Tavern, Brightlingsea, and New Bell in Harwich.
