A FORMER workshop in Elmstead Market could be turned into a gospel church if plans get the go-ahead.
The Colchester Gospel Hall Trust wants to convert the St John’s Works, in Bromley Road, into a place of worship.
It already has churches at Thorrington, Weeley, Frating and Dedham.
Architect Tim Snow said: “Should this application be approved, it is envisaged that a scheme will be developed to overhaul the building, including the improvement of its appearance.
“Colchester Gospel Hall Trust take pride in the care of their buildings, as can be seen at their other sites.
“This change of use will provide a new community use facility which will be run by a successful and growing local church.”
The vacant building was previously used by mechanical and electrical engineers Kingsford Services.
A decision on the application is expected to be made by Tendring Council by March 28.
