THE search is on for teams to take part in a massive fundraising marathon walk in Clacton.

The Relay for Life event is run every year to boost funds for Cancer Research UK.

It involves teams of up to 15 walkers trekking non-stop around a track over a weekend.

Team members take it in turns to walk the track, rest, eat and sleep, working in shifts to keep someone walking at all times.

The event also features a mass of activities around the course for those not taking part.

A Candle of Hope ceremony is also held, where candles are lit around the track illuminating special messages to loved ones affected by cancer.

The Relay for Life has taken place in Clacton for the last three years, raising more than £125,000 in that time.

Organisers are also looking for cancer survivors to take part in a lap of honour before the race.

The Relay for Life will take place at Alton Park Junior School over the weekend of September 14 and 15.

Organisers will be promoting the event at the Tesco store at Brook Retail Park on February 2 and 3, when people will be able to sign up for the event.

There will also be a pig race evening to kick off the fundraising efforts from 7pm on February 3 at the Firs Caravan Park.
