A MASS of electrical items were handed in at a special recycling event in Clacton.

More than 100 unwanted or broken items were given in during the recycling session at Brook Retail Park.

Over the five hour event people handed in a large haul of televisions, vacuum cleaners, dvd players, with one person even bringing in a lawnmower.

Environmental officers were on hand to encourage visitors to recycle electrical items properly.

The event, run by Tendring Council and Essex County Council, was designed to boost the use of recycling banks and centres in the area.

Tendring Council environment boss Nick Turner said: “It was a busy day with 84 significant items brought along as well as lots of other bits and pieces.

“The officers took the opportunity to show people the value of recycling.

“Up to 97 per cent of the materials in electrical waste can be recycled and used in new products - and this helps to divert waste from landfill.”
