A DANGEROUS traffic island at a busy junction in Frating will be repaired following a series of collisions.

The keep-left bollard on the raised island in the centre of Main Road was knocked over in a car smash last September.

Since then five more cars have rammed into the island, in the road outside the Kings Arms pub, after being caught out by the unmarked obstacle.

District councillor Fred Nicholls has called for it to be replaced as soon as possible as he fears more accidents will happen this winter if weather conditions get worse.

“The keep-left bollard is no longer there and there is no light, just a lump of concrete in the middle of the road,” he said.

“It is dangerous – there’s nothing to warn people.”

A county council spokesman said: “The materials required to install the new bollard are due to arrive this week.

“As soon as we have them we will schedule the work to be carried out at the earliest opportunity.

“We apologise any inconvenience caused.”
