AN appeal will be launched against the closure of a path in Walton.
A gate has been put up cutting off Byway 45, a path which links Mill Lane with Walton’s town hard area.
The gate was erected by Halls Boatyard to increase security.
Owners were given permission to block off the public path with the new gate by Essex County Council.
But town councillors will fight against the decision.
Walton councillor Jack Robertson said: “It has always been a public right of way. It was on the definitive map and had been for years.
“It’s the only access from the town down to the quay and the town hard.
“The county council has approved the closure. It was all done above board and by the book, but I think we need to fight it if we can.”
Councillors have asked for residents to submit evidence to the town council of the path being used as a public right of way.
Evidence should be handed in to the town council office at the Triangle Shopping Centre in Frinton before January 16.
