Essex detective wins top award

AN Essex detective has won a special award for helping victims of sexual violence.

Det Chief Insp Denise Morrissey heads the force sex offences team and has helped hundreds of victims and witnesses.

She was nominated by Victim Support Essex and, at the Police Bravery Awards, won the Victim Support's award for outstanding contribution to supporting victims and witnesses.

She has overseen much needed improvements to the treatment of victims in Essex and played a major role in launching the sexual assault referral centres Paul McKeever, chairman of the Police Federation of England and Wales, said: "DCI Morrissey is a commendable winner and a credit to the police service.”

Congratulations DCI Morrissey. Keep up the good work. The victims should never be forgotton as they could suffer lifelong fear and witnesses should always be protected.
