LEGENDARY funnyman Freddie Starr comes to Clacton tomorrow night insisting "I'm innocent" after being caught up in the Jimmy Savile child abuse scandal.

Starr, 69, said he was "absolutely mortified" at an allegation he groped a teenage girl in the 1970s and branded Savile as "despicable" and "disgusting".

Speaking exclusively to the Gazette, he said: “There’s no way I would pull out of the show because of the allegations – I know I’m innocent."

One fan said: “When these things are said, certain people go out of their way to try and blacken the names of our stars.

“He is a lovely man. I have seen him loads of times.”
