Vital support service Careline celebrates anniversary
3:30pm Friday 19th October 2012 in News
A SUPPORT service for vulnerable people in Tendring is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
Careline has been run by Tendring Council since 1987, and currently has more than 3,700 members across the district.
It helps elderly and vulnerable people live independently in their own homes.
Members can have alarms fitted in their homes to press if they are in trouble. If the alarm is pressed Careline staff come to their aid.
The Careline control centre gets about 160,000 calls every year, and an average of about 440 every day.
Tendring Council cabinet spokesman Stephen Mayzes said: “We have been continually developing Careline’s role in supporting our community for two and a half decades.
“The services are open to all but are mainly used by some of our most vulnerable residents such as the elderly and those with disabilities.
“Tendring has one of the highest numbers of residents over 65 per capita in Europe and more people with disabilities than anywhere else in Essex."
