Work finished on new community orchard in Jaywick
11:30am Friday 19th October 2012 in News
COMMUNITY members and schoolchildren came together to turn an empty grassland area into a flourishing orchard in Jaywick.
Jaywick Community Forum was given land off Lotus Way by a trust more than three years ago.
After a day of hard graft work is now complete on the orchard.
The forum members linked up with schoolchildren from the area, as well Essex Fire and voluntary services members to plant 40 trees.
Forum secretary Gill Elkins said: “It was a lot of hard work but we have finished work on the orchard now.
“It looks so much better than it did, and we hope it will look fantastic once all the trees have grown a little.
“We had about 70 people coming down to help out on the day, which was fantastic."
Half of the trees were funded by Essex County Council scheme Edible Essex.
It will be officially unveiled with the orchard on November 2.
