Charitable Clacton teen raises hundreds with quiz night
7:30am Friday 19th October 2012 in News
A CHARITABLE teenager raised more than £700 to help fight cancer with a quiz night.
Clacton County High School sixth form student Lewis Richards, 16, was inspired to organise the event after seeing one of his former science teachers battle cancer.
Lewis’ mum has also fought off cancer in the past, and he decided to donate the cash from the quiz night to Cancer Research UK.
Lewis said: “My science teacher is such an inspiration to me and a huge role model, and I want to help her and people like her by raising money to go to the charity.
“I’m really pleased with how it went and want to do more quiz nights for this and other charities in the future.”
More than 20 teams packed St Pauls Church hall, and local Cancer Research UK coordinator Darren Couchman acted as quiz master.
Darren said: “Lewis has done so well. He organised the whole quiz and he wrote all the questions himself.
“It was brilliant to see so many local people turn out to support him and the charity."
