Clacton dad who survived cancer to appear in TV ad
5:30pm Thursday 18th October 2012 in News
A DAD who beat cancer will appear on TV with his daughter as part of a new national campaign.
Clacton man Darren Couchman was diagnosed with testicle cancer in 2001, but fought off the disease after a successful bout of chemotherapy.
He has been campaigning to raise awareness of the disease since then, and will now appear in an advert for the national scheme Stand Up To Cancer with daughter Ruby.
Channel 4 and Cancer Research UK have linked up to launch a Stand Up To Cancer live telethon on Friday to raise cash to fight the disease.
Darren and Ruby will appear in one of five adverts featuring cancer survivors, designed to promote the show.
Their advert will be played on Channel 4 during the night-long show.
Darren, who is dad to Leah, 16, Charlie, 14, and Ruby, 5, said: “It was great to be asked to do the advert. The telethon is really a groundbreaking thing, it’s the first time Cancer Research has done like that on that scale in this country.”
The live telethon will be screened on Channel 4 on Friday from 7.30pm.
