UNEMPLOYMENT in Tendring has risen for the first time in seven months.
Latest figures showed there were 3,231 people out of work and claiming benefits last month, up from 3,209 in August.
The Office for National Statistics said there were 335 less people unemployed in the Tendring district than at the same time last year.
There has also been a drop in the number of vacancies at Tendring’s Jobcentres, down to 579, from 621 last month. It means there are almost six people chasing each job.
The figures also showed more than 9.3 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds are on the dole.
More than 3.8 per cent of Tendring’s working-age population is now on benefits – in line with the national average. In Colchester, just 3,205 people - 2.6 per cent – are out of work.
