Mixed reception for Titchmarsh Marina development plans
7:30am Monday 15th October 2012 in News
TOWN councillors are supporting plans for a new sail loft workshop at Titchmarsh Marina in Walton.
Work will start on the new building at the marina’s Coles Lane site if permission is granted by Tendring Council.
Councillor Alec Moss said: “The building will be low profile and will improve our chances of getting top standard sail-makers here to our town.”
Councillor Giles Watling also said it would boost employment prospects in Walton.
But the town council voted against a separate application from Marina bosses for a replacement chandlery building at the site based on the poor quality of the design of the new building and the application submitted.
Giles Watling said: “It would be super to have a replacement to the current building which has been falling down for years.
“I support the idea but this is a very poor application.”
Councillor David Lines said: “This building would be in a prominent place and visible to people visiting the town.
“I’m not asking for picture postcard stuff but it needs to be acceptable, and this design looks like a pig sty.”
Tendring Council will have final say on the proposal.
