Conservative Group on Tendring Council elect new leader

THE Conservative Group on Tendring Council have unanimously elected Peter Halliday as their new leader.

Mr Halliday, who has been deputy group leader since 2008, was elected in following a secret ballot vote at a meeting on Wednesday night.

The move comes after Neil Stock, who led the Conservative Group since 2007, announced on October 3 he would stand down as leader of the Conservative Group and Tendring Council leader.

Councillor Halliday said: “To have received the personal support of every group member in a secret ballot gives me a powerful mandate to go forward and take over from Councillor Stock and build on the great successes he has achieved during his leadership.”

A vote will take place to formally elect a new leader of Tendring Council at a future date.
