Aldi hails support for store scheme in Clacton

A SUPERMARKET chain said it is pleased with public support for its scheme for a supermarket in Clacton.

Plans for an Aldi store in Clacton were submitted to Tendring Council in July.

If it gets the green light it will be built on the Warwick Castle site on Pier Avenue.

The site is currently used twice a week as a marketplace, but stands empty the rest of the time.

Aldi bosses spoke to residents before submitting their application to the council.

They have now completed a second consultation by dropping 500 questionnaires to nearby homes.

Of those who replied, 70 per cent were in favour of the Aldi development and 95 per cent wanted to see something done with the Warwick Castle site.

Aldi Property Director Roland Stanley said: “We have been delighted with the interest shown in the scheme and the continued support shown for this exciting opportunity for Clacton, which will finally see the regeneration of this town centre site.

“We have received a lot of interest from people wishing to apply for a job in the store and we hope to be able to begin the recruitment process as soon as we can."
