Clacton school targeted by lead thieves
3:40pm Wednesday 10th October 2012 in News
A CLACTON school was targeted by lead thieves.
St Clare’s Primary School was hit by crooks in an overnight snatch last weekend.
They ripped lead flashing from around the windows of the school’s key stage one block.
The theft was discovered by the school’s caretaker on Sunday.
The theft was reported to police and officers are appealing for anyone with information on the crime to contact them.
Clacton sergeant Sarah Jay said: “Most places don’t even realise the lead has gone until there is heavy rainfall and then it can cause a huge amount of damage when it floods.”
Police have also warned people to look out for anyone acting suspiciously, or trying to sell lead under suspicious circumstances.
Anyone with information should contact officers at Clacton police station on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
