Alleged attacker was Amy Winehouse ex-bodyguard

A BODYGUARD who once protected Amy Winehouse was allegedly involved in a plot to murder a man at his Clacton home.

Daniel Yates is one of four men charged with attacking Jamie Usedon outside his house in Dudley Road shortly before 6am on March 15.

Chelmsford Crown Court heard yesterday how Yates, 40, was certified with the Security Industry Authority and had protected celebrities such as Amy Winehouse, the court was told.

Yates, 40, of Araglen Avenue, Dale Frame, 26, of Broxburn Drive, Edwin Schreech-Powell, 30, of Garth Road, all of South Ockenden, and Robert Knight, 50, of Lowlands Drive, Aveley, face charges of conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.

All four deny the charges.

CCTV cameras had shown a taxi driven by Knights had travelled to Clacton on the day of the attack, which left Mr Usedon, 23, in hospital for several days.

Blood found on Frame’s clothing after the incident had been forensically examined and was revealed to be his own, after he sustained a stab wound to the arm. No trace of Mr Usedon’s blood was discovered on the clothing, the court heard.

The jury was told of Frame’s previous convictions, which include multiple counts of battery, affray and possessing the class A drug MDMA.

They were also told sim cards and mobile phone records showed each defendant was in contact with at least one other of the men prior to the attack.

<i>The trial continues.
